Alpha research and jobs-driven strategy shareout

One ambiguous challenge of this project was to maneuver around decisions being based on old data, and different teams insisting that the product be feature-driven.

One key part of our strategy was updating stakeholders that Solopreneurs juggle a bunch of freemium solutions before committing to financial management software. Shifting the design paradigm from a feature-driven product to a jobs-driven product brought our audience in, and we hit our subscriber metrics 🚀.

A big struggle for Solopreneurs is the separation of business and personal transactions. Learning the verbs and phrase shortcuts that work for them happened across dozens of interviews. Once we dialed in the content, we leveraged our platform capabilities to sort and categorize transactions automatically. This reduced manual entry and increased confidence in the accuracy of their books.

Our product content strategy also had to align with how we build our web experiences. Aligning web stakeholders to bring this 0-1 experience to this audience required careful content design decisions and lots of cross-functional teamwork.

Solopreneur launched in February 2024. We achieved our jobs-driven design pivot, generated revenue for the organization, and continued to push for future-proofing the product with AI integration. The principles we outlined at the beginning of this project carried us to our goal of increasing the profitability of people who put their futures on the line by becoming businesses of one.
